Joseph Smith: Prophet of the Restoration

Following is a video about the Restoration of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. In 1820 a 14 year old boy entered a grove of trees and prayed to God about which church to join. The answer he received has changed the lives of millions of people around the world. This is an amazing testimony of the Prophet Joseph Smith and the struggles of his life as he brought about the Restoration of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We are forever grateful for the faith that he had as a young boy, the strength he had as a man and the work he accomplished as a prophet of God. He translated the Book of Mormon by the power of our Heavenly Father. We also know that we have a living prophet today, President Thomas S. Monson, and he leads and guides us in the ways of God and Jesus Christ. We add our testimony to those of the prophets - We know that this is the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and is the only true and living church on the earth today - and as missionaries in the California San Bernardino mission, we have the opportunity to tell many of God's children this message.

Profile of President and Sister Godwin

President Godwin, son of Ocy Godwin Christensen was raised as a navy child living in US coastal cities and Hawaii, graduating from high school in San Diego and then attending BYU for two years and finishing at the University of Utah in business management. (Yes, we are BYU fans!) Sister Godwin, daughter of Otis & Belva Hamilton, grew up in Edgemont (north of Provo), Utah, graduating from Orem High School and LDS Business College. We have lived in Salt Lake, Bountiful, Denver, Colorado and Cincinnati, Ohio. Our home for the past 32 years has been in Highland, Utah. President worked in the pharmaceutical industry for 37 years, retiring from Sanofi-Aventis in 2008. We have 5 children: Lori Ann, married to Robert Ferrell, 9 children; Michael, married to Jennie Hanson, 6 children; Jillyne, married to Jeff Mugleston, 5 children; Jared, married to Shaunna Hoskins, 4 children; Brandt, married to Tami Ash, 2 children - yes, that is 26 beautiful grandchildren! Four of our children and 3 of our in-loves served missions.



Our Call to Serve:



We received a call from Elder D. Todd Christofferson's office and were asked to meet with him on June 8 at 2 p.m. We went to the hospital where our little granddaughter was born that morning and then went to the church office building to meet with Elder Christofferson. After a pleasant visit with him, we left (wondering "why?") and went to lunch, arriving back at our home about 4:45 with a call from President Uchtdorf's office on our answering machine. We returned the call and his assistant asked us to meet with President Uchtdorf at 8:15 the following morning, June 9. We had a warm visit with him, at the conclusion of which he issued a call to us to serve as President and wife of the California San Bernardino Mission. He then asked us if we could leave in approximately 3 weeks! We swallowed hard and replied that we would go and serve whenever and wherever the Lord called us to go. Our doctor and friend helped facilitate the exams, tests and vaccinations required. We attended the Mission President's Seminar at the Provo MTC on June 23 - 27th and then went on a pre-planned vacation with our children and grandchildren. The moving company packed some pictures, books, our bed, some clothes and our excercise bike and we were on our way to California. We are honored and blessed to be able to love and serve the Lord here in this wonderful mission with many dedicated missionaries, both young elders and sisters as well as senior couples and sisters. We are thankful for their dedicated service and love of their Savior. We love each of them very much. It is our desire to serve and move the work of the Lord forward as we find, preach and baptize His beloved children, help them receive the blessings of the temple and then, help them, as well as ourselves, endure to the end...........Sister Godwin

The Reason for this Blog

We have been interested in creating a blog since we arrived and this is going to be a work in continual progress. This is a personal blog with information about the mission and is not affiliated with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. It is a way that we can communicate with parents, friends, extended family members and investigators of the missionaries that serve in the beautiful California San Bernardino Mission--The Greatest Mission in the World!! We will post pictures, statistics, mission information, news, maps, zone areas, quotes from prophets past and present, etc. In an effort to include everyone, we will post pictures of departing missionaries, incoming missionaries, zone conferences, various other meetings and gatherings, as well as our mission newsletters with articles written by President and Sister Godwin as well as missionaries that are departing and incoming missionaries' individual photos. Ensign Article: True Spirit of Community, Ensign February 2003

Sister Marilyn Mills is a local historian and wrote an article about the settling of San Bernardino that is in the February 2003 Ensign Magazine entitled "True Community - Latter-Day Saints in San Bernardino 1851 - 1857"

Sister Mills meets with all of the incoming missionaries (weather permitting) at the Glen Helen Park at the bottom of Cajon Pass where the Saints gathered for Conference and where many of the saints dwelled for a time after they were mustered out of the Mormon Battalion. Some went to Sutter's Mill to help John Sutter build his mill and most returned to Salt Lake City to meet up with their families.
